227 – Thor: Goddess of Thunder

Thor: Goddess of Thunder

Get ready for the first ever Husband & Wife episode of Welcome to Comics as Andy and Mitali discuss “Thor: Goddess of Thunder” by Jason Aaron. When suddenly none of the Asgardians can lift Mjolnir, a mysterious woman appears and is deemed worthy! The new Thor must battle an invasion of frost giants and beware the wrath of those who call her “thief” — including Odin himself! We talk about how this comic comes across to a new comics reader, and we discuss the controversy behind making Thor *gasp* a woman! No, but, seriously, it’s fine. Plus, we gab about the new Deadpool trailer and Korra. For more info on past and future shows, go to www.WelcometoComics.com! 226 – Dr. Fate: Countdown to Mystery

Dr. Fate: Countdown to Mystery

We bust out DC’s weird doctor this week and read “Dr. Fate: Countdown to Mystery,” by Steve Gerber. While this isn’t the best Fate story, it’s pretty much the only one ever collected into a trade. The comic introduces us to a new inheritor of the Helm of Nabu. As we learn about Kent Nelson and his struggles, we see what makes him worthy of the mantle. We talk about the depictions of homelessness and alcoholism, the weird character constructions for Inza and Maddy, and the four different endings that various writers came up with after Gerber passed away before finishing the story. Plus, we chat about gundams. Again. For past episodes, go to www.WelcometoComics.com. To support the show, become a patron over at www.patreon.com/WelcometoComics today. Next week: “Thor: Goddess of Thunder” by Jason Aaron!

225 – Dr. Strange: The Oath

Dr. Strange: The Oath

We start off a mystical doctor comparison two-parter by reading “Doctor Strange: The Oath” by Brian K. Vaughan. This amazingly tidy little 5-issue miniseries has amazing artwork, excellent pacing, and a fun story. We gush over everything we love, but end up with a somewhat hollow feeling: for such an awesome book, there’s not much to chew on. Plus, we talk about Gundam Gunpla and LAY DOWN THE GAUNTLET in a GUNDAM BUILDING CHALLENGE against SUPER SUGOI CAST. Will they rise up? For more episodes, go to www.WelcometoComics.com.
