221 – The Rift

The Rift

Out After Avatar series wraps up with “The Rift” by Gene Luen Yang. After two weeks of knowing the general premise of the comic, we were all pretty excited to dive into this week without any expectations or preconceived notions. We talk about the multiple levels of complexity between the different disconnects and divides throughout this comic: past and future, spirits and humans, etc. We also dive into Toph as a character and praise Yang’s ability to craft such quality character development: after reading this comic, the entire portrayal of Toph throughout all Avatar media is enriched and made deeper. Plus, we say hello to all our comics creator friends and we crown a TRIVIA CHAMPION. To support the show, go to www.Patreon.com/WelcometoComics. For more episodes, hit up www.WelcometoComics.com. Next week: “Secret Wars” by Jim Shooter!

220 – The Search

The Search

It’s the Avatar comic you’ve been waiting for since the day the show ended: “The Search” by Gene Luen Yang. We can’t stop talking about all the awesomesauce in this comic: everything from the awesome callback tidbits, to the satisfying plot resolutions, and the incredible new characters. There’s so much good stuff packed into this comic, it’s hard to recommend it to just about anybody. Plus, we open the show with a discussion on what we got excited about coming out of E3. 219 – The Promise

The Promise

Since we’re all super huge Avatar: The Last Airbender fans, we thought we’d give the post-show comics a try, starting with “The Promise” by Gene Luen Yang. We discuss this comic’s awesome success at carrying over the tone of the show, dealing with heavy topics like colonization and cultural appropriation. We also discuss some misses like questionable Aang character moments and disappointment in the resolution. Plus, we converse about DC’s Convergence event. For more episodes, go to www.WelcometoComics or support the show over at www.patreon.com/WelcometoComics. Next week: “The Search” by Gene Luen Yang.
