212 – Avengers & X-Men: Axis

Axis: Avengers & X-Men

We pick up Marvel’s big event comic from last year, “Avengers & X-Men: Axis” by Rick Remender. This comic starts with a giant embodiment of worldwide hatred called the Red Onslaught, moves on to a big battle between evil versions of the X-Men & Avengers, and finishes off with a rhinestone statue topper. This comic was a big ball of crazy, and we dig into the action, the interesting axial flips, and what kind of character development you can really expect during an event comic. Plus, we debut an all new segment: Trivia! For more information on past or future shows, go to www.WelcometoComcics.com! Next Week: “Moon Knight: From Dead!” by Warren Ellis!

211 – Lazarus: Family: Prelude

Lazarus: Family: Prelude

Greg Rucka’s 2013 “Lazarus” was one of the most lauded runs during 2014, so we picked up volume one “Family: Prelude” to give it a try. In a Dystopian future where the 1% rule territories like the Feudal families of old, only the Lazarus can keep her family in line — or is she really just a pawn? We talk about the amazingly childish family dynamics, Eve’s relationship with her father, and the grimy texture of this world. Plus, we name a Fight Night Champion. 210 – Seconds

Seconds

Bryan Lee O’Malley’s “Seconds” is the final book in our mega Best of 2014 series. Katie, a young and talented chef, is working to open up a restaurant that’s all her own while battling her numerous life mistakes with the power of timespace-altering mushrooms she stole from a House Spirit. Yeah, this comic seems normal and then gets weird, and while we all like the ideas, we’re not so sure we actually like Katie. Plus, we gush a little about O’Malley’s flexible art style. This week’s Fight Night was “Best Headquarters.” For more information on past or future shows, visit www.WelcometoComics.com! Next Week: “Lazarus: Family” by Greg Rucka.
